A Reason For Rehab: Overweight and Aging Dogs
At the Equine Performance Center, we offer specialized Aqua Therapy programs for overweight dogs. This therapy is a critical component of an effective weight management plan, providing a safe and efficient form of exercise that complements the nutritional and medical care your dog may already be receiving. This is also an ideal treatment for owners who may face physical challenges in providing regular exercise to their dogs.
Sessions typically range from 5 to 15 minutes of sustained water therapy. While once a week is effective, twice-weekly sessions offer greater benefits.
Our rehabilitation services also extend to geriatric dogs, focusing on improving or maintaining their mobility, decreasing pain, and enhancing overall fitness. We cater to aging dogs with arthritis, rear-leg weakness, degenerative myelopathy, decreased activity tolerance, and incontinence. Just like with overweight dogs, the frequency and duration of water therapy sessions are tailored to each dog’s endurance, typically lasting 5-15 minutes. Regular sessions help improve mobility and reduce discomfort.
At the Equine Performance Center, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and specialized care for your canine companions, whether they are dealing with weight management issues or the challenges of aging.
